From June 14 to June 18, the Instituto Distrital de las Artes - Idartes shone with its participation in the Global Toronto - GT21, an event organized by Small World Music of Canada, with the purpose of not only exhibiting and promoting artists, but also promoting a conference space to reimagine and build a more accessible, equitable and sustainable music sector. In addition, it seeks to encourage and promote musicians who have been underrepresented or marginalized, building bridges towards multidimensional sustainability.
The Idartes team was one of the 17 global delegations present at the meeting, which had 1,118 participants from 70 different countries. During this day, the entity amplified its message and commitment to sustainability, not only from the environmental point of view, but also from the social and economic aspects. Programs like Mixtura, Notas de Paz y RETO (Mixture, peace notes y CHALLENGE), called the attention of all the participants as well as the initiative Respira el Arte (breathe art), which seeks to create a network of environmentally sustainable scenarios in Bogotá.
Thanks to this management, the delegation met with more than 10 participating entities from countries such as Canada, Ecuador, Chile, Spain and Paraguay, as well as artist representatives to specify future collaborations, synergies, alliances and exchanges. Additionally, the team representing Idartes attended events where they had the opportunity to deepen and strengthen their perspectives and management in spaces such as the Professional Development Session: Foundation of EDI - Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, where the importance of having cultural organizations free of racism, thinking about people with disabilities and give diversity a voice, among other spaces.
“From Idartes we bet on a greater recognition and strengthening of the Bogotá cultural scene, for which we seek allies worldwide. Our participation in Global Toronto 2021 was fundamental to introduce our initiatives and programs aimed at generating collaborations and alliances at a global level”, affirms the director of Idartes, Catalina Valencia.
With this participation, Idartes confirms that its programs and initiatives are increasingly relevant on the international stage. This was evidenced, for example, with the participation of the Deputy Director of Cultural Facilities, Carlos Mauricio Galeano in the Mindfully Moving Forward panel of Global Toronto and Folk Music Ontario, in which they discussed the Breathe Art initiative and learned about other sustainability projects from other regions of America.
